{"id":719,"date":"2025-11-22T15:33:51","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T06:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emergetherapeuticservices.com.au\/?page_id=719"},"modified":"2025-11-22T15:54:48","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T06:24:48","slug":"first-session-what-to-expect","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/emergetherapeuticservices.com.au\/?page_id=719","title":{"rendered":"What to Expect"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your first session is an initial assessment and will take approximately 90 minutes, it includes a detailed assessment and treatment plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Assessments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assessments are used to identify mental health conditions, emotional states, cognitive functioning, psychological well-being, personal development, strengths, areas for growth, understand symptoms and determine appropriate treatments.\u00a0 They inform treatment plans, track progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and provide a baseline for measuring change over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the assessments used are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bio-psychosocial assessment: <\/strong>Considers biological, psychological, and social factors and how these factors interact and influence your overall individual well-being in the context of your family, social networks, and broader community, and how socio-economic and environmental factors impact mental health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Depression, Anxiety and Stress Questionnaire (DAAS): <\/strong>Assesses the levels of depression, anxiety, and stress you\u2019ve experienced over the past week. This questionnaire will help us understand your current state.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Psychological Distress Scale (K10):<\/strong> Assesses emotional distress and severity of psychological symptoms. It\u2019s a useful tool for identifying individuals who might need further evaluation or intervention.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Checklist (PCL-5):<\/strong> Assesses for PTSD symptoms, how they are affecting your life, symptom severity, and to evaluate the presence and intensity of PTSD symptoms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adverse Childhood Experiences Questionnaire (ACE): <\/strong>Assesses for traumatic events or experiences that occur in childhood and can have a significant impact on long-term health and well-being.\u00a0 They typically include physical, emotional or sexual abuse, physical or emotional neglect, exposure to family dysfunction such as substance abuse, mental illness, domestic violence, incarceration or divorce.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS): <\/strong>Assesses internal psychological health and personal growth and provides a detailed assessment of an individual&#8217;s subjective well-being.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>World Health Organisation Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL): <\/strong>Assess overall quality of life from a broader perspective, including physical health, psychological health, social relationships, and environmental factors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is the difference between assessments and diagnosis?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assessments are comprehensive evaluations used to gather information about an individual\u2019s overall functioning, needs, or abilities across various domains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Diagnosis focuses on identifying and labelling specific medical or psychological conditions based on symptoms and criteria and can only be undertaken by a medical professional or psychologist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Your first session is an initial assessment and will take approximately 90 minutes, it includes a detailed assessment and treatment plan.
